Marketing a masterpiece

Okay, while masterpiece might be stretching matters, it's nice to aspire to greatness. James & Jim is certainly a book for the modern age. Although it's set in the far distant past —2007—the marketing campaign has taken advantage of social media. See the video and images below.

The teaser

In this video, Moser's first, we are introduced to James & Jim. Influenced heavily by the work of designer Saul Bass and the credit sequences of Alfred Hitchcock, this video is a great overview of the humor and horror combined in this original novel.

Next came the "unboxing video"

Far from sharing a standard unboxing video, Moser kept up the momentum. With the assistance of his spouse, designer Andrew Rubenoff, Moser created a ghoulishly clever unboxing video.

Meet James Morrison

In this video, Moser harkens back to educational films shown to bored students in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. When bored teachers wheeled out the sixteen-millimeter projectors, students knew they were in for it. Again, Moser tweaks the genre while hinting at the horror that lies beneath the comedy. His friend Bruce Hirshfield helped by providing period-appropriate voice-over.

But that's not all...

Getting under the skin of his protagonist

Moser went even further, this time delving deep into what drives his protagonist, James Morrison. In this video we have a riveting, disturbing look behind the scenes of management consulting, and the pressures that any consultant on the rise must face.

...with voice over!

Because this video was to be used for podcasts, Moser created another version with voiceover, so the visuals and the sound could stand alone for both audio and video podcasts.

Inspired by the New Yorker...
